this week in the studio…
we happened to be in the hardware store when inspiration struck. i have been on the lookout for interesting ways to add texture and patterns to my backgrounds. have you looked around a hardware store. i could have easily filled my cart!
so here are some of my goodies. can not wait to get using them. which should actually be happening today as you read this post! :)
a paste brush.
a drain protector. not sure if i will need to flatten this or not. but i love the size of circles.
not sure what the blue thing is. found it in the paint area.
this was part of wall and ceiling repair patch.
this was the other part of the repair patch. love the shapes.
have any of you used something unusual for backgrounds or for stamps?
also…
have you entered my giveaway?
dayspring is giving away some wonderful courageous goodies. the movie begins today.
it is a don't miss movie!
looking forward to seeing your creative heart this week.

Those look like some fantastic items! Can't wait to see what you make! I think the linky is missing. I don't see it.
sorry about that. sometimes if i switch between visual and html view when creating my post, i lose codes. not sure why or how to fix that! :)
I love finding treasures in unexpected places. I am sure these new tools will help you add a great dimension to your art work Jen : )
thanks becky! who knew the hardware store could be so much fun, right? :)

sorry about that. it seems if i switch between visual and html view when creating my post, i lose codes. hoping someone can help me figure out why that happens? i will link you up! :)
ooops I just did.. u may wanna remove one.
btw, it's more about coming "artful-ness"… thankful that you've helped me to see the art in what i do!
that is awesome! i am so happy you are seeing the art in what you do. can not wait to see your posts melissa!
It looks like you're going to be having a lot of fun! I don't paint so I haven't used anything unusual but I can see how you would find potential in your findings. Have fun!
thank you renee! funny where that potential can be seen! :)
ooops I just added my link too!
Those look like so much fun! I could use textures like that in my scrapbooking! I think I need to visit the hardware store!! :) I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I'll be scrapbooking at Jana's parents! :) :) :)
I have a box full of stuff that I use for making patterns and textures in my work- a belt, bottle caps, screens, etc. I get so excited when I find something I can use. Next time, I'll take a tour around the hardware! Thanks for the tip!
What fun new tools! I can't wait to see the lovely patterns and textures you make with them.
hardware store, who knew? I think the blue thing goes in a painting tray to help get the excess off your roller. Will link up at naptime.
I cut stamps from flip flops that I get at the dollar store. My husband also brings interesting stuff from work that I don't even know what it is but it makes great texture. Fly-swats work great as well. Netting the lemons came in. I love to use "regular" stuff for adding texture!
Oooooh I love this idea so much, tfs Jenny
Oh yes, my local Home Depot knows I go there – not for paint, but most everything else…and the guys know if I ask for something, I won't be using it for its intended use! This looks very intriguing! I believe I am getting braver with what molding paste can do for me! But I hadn't thought of repair patch fibers before…
Blessings…
Jennifer, These look awesome!! I can't wait to see what you come up with for texture! In the piece that I did on my blogpost shared today, I used a bag that onions came in and stippled blue paint into it…I also did the same thing on the Open the Door piece with red paint.
I have used jar-opener-grippers, and paper doilies.
I'm loving using gel medium with glass beads also….that makes some great bumpy texture. In the "Beauty in the Mess" piece I put down a paper doily, then stippled the gel medium w/ glass beads mixed with teal green paint over the doily…
Glad you are feeling better!
I can't wait to see what you do with your new art supplies :) Your creativity amazes me… and now I'm going to be on the lookout for fun hardware store stuff :)
Oooh yes!! the repair patch looks awesome, I am really anxious to see what you can do with that!
I always wind up with a cart full at the office supply, now I want to give the hardware store a try!
Have a great weekend!
Scarlett
I love hardware stores! We used to go to Lowe's and walk around to try to induce labor! :) Can't wait to see what you come up with!!!
Can't wait to see what you're working on! :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Oh Bah I have no tangible art to offer this week… I was in the wood studio and got things cut out but things haven't panned out the way I want… I have almost scrapped everything..just frustrated where that is concerned…
That being said… I am in and out of hardware stores all the times…they are fun places…better then a library if you ask me! lol.
can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

The hardware store and the dollar store are some of my favorite places to find crafting treasures…plus the price is right…lol I'll be back to add my link…been a very busy week. Thanks for hosting, fondly, Roberta
I love your new "tools", Jennifer! I have not used much for backgrounds except bubble wrap and corrugated cardboard but now you've got me thinking . . . Can't wait to see what you come up with!
